What is a Safe-Shipping Zone?

This is an extension to my short snippet in my FAQ. A safe shipping zone is a place where you will never be judged because of who you ship together. I originally would use the term when I’d have skype conversations with friends because we all ship a crazzzyy range of ships. (This isn’t just for HP ships but the following rant is focused on HP)

However I think this really applies to my tumblr as well, I get tons of messages everyday from people who just want to discuss their ships (because I like to do that for fun idek!) and a lot of those people are shy about “shipping” their ships publicly because of the hate or disapproval they would receive. I cant explain how interesting I find it to dissect and attempt to understand a pairing. I truly enjoy these conversations more than anything and I don’t believe I’ve ever responded negatively to any ships they’ve thrown at me.. and trust me theres been some really interesting ones. But it isn’t just about unusual ships, crack ships or random pairings, its also about ending these “shipping wars” that occur all over tumblr.

I’m talking about the fights that revolve around Romione vs. Harmony or Dramione & Tonks/Lupin vs. Wolfstar, Hinny, blah blah all of those “popular” ships. I wont say any single ship community is better than another because I’ve had time to speak to people about their ships and look at it from their point of view. I’m not saying to stop shipping your pairing or be any less enthusiastic about it, simply dont jump down others throats for having their own ships.

Before you send an angry comment or message take time to think about why they ship what they do. (Or if you don’t want to, thats fine, just let them be)Even if it isn’t canon. The whole “canon is better” deal is very repetitive. I ship some canon and some non-canon so I understand how both sides feel. Bashing someone with the argument that canon is the only way to go will not change how they feel. You can fume about it on your own blog but please don’t decide to send hate to every single blog that ships a certain pairing you absolutely cannot stand. Their blog is their space, and your blog is yours.

Feel free to write “_______ IS BETTER” all over your space but respect others graphics, gifs, and pages. I cannot express how rude it is to write negative comments on a graphic/gif of a pairing you dont approve of. Or even worse in a tag. You have opinions about it? That’s alright, just don’t write them on the graphic. Do it on your own tumblr. 

Dont think that anyone ships their pairings any less passionately than you do. No one decides to (seriously) ship a  pairing without reason. There is some form of foundation or reason to their ship. You don’t have to agree with it, but at least respect it.

You could even go a step further and ask them why they ship their pairing. To explain their reasoning and examples behind it. They’d probably be delighted to link you some explanations or write some of their own. Nothing feels better than having the opportunity to explain your pairing to someone else.  In a calm and friendly manner. Who know you might be the reason they add a ship to their list or change ships?

Now thats another thing, there is a very large difference between true “opinions” and just bashing/being mean about something. It irritates me beyond belief when someone hates on anyone else (about anything really not just this) and says “well this is my opinion” because no thats not an opinion, that is just hate disguised behind a simple sentence.

Saying “I HATE ______”  is simply just hating. On the other hand saying “I hate _____ because” is more in depth and isn’t just said without reason. (though hate is a strong word). I truly believe that one of the most, if not the most, important skills in life is being able to defend your opinions/judgements with information or examples. It not only gains you respect for having solidely formed judgements but shows others that nothing you “hate” “dislike” “love” is without reason. It extends your ability to think rationally/logically and have civilized conversations with others about subjects you disagree upon. Its amazing when you can hold a calm, collected, conversation with someone else and exchange view points. No petty “omfg your ship sucks!” which doesn’t help either party really. 

The ability to discuss disagreements with others, is something that will help you in your life for pretty much ever. In the States (I think), part of the reason we have so many political/financial issues is because no one ever stops and takes a SINCERE look at other plans of action/ideas from opposing members. If its a Republican idea, then its immediately dismissed by Democrats, if a Democrat thought of a solution, well then, Republicans wont hear of it. Its a fine line between both and yet sometimes we cant find a proper balance.

Wow I’m taking politics now o.O this could get ugly. 

In conclusion I made no sense.

Further more just “ship who you love, love who you ship and respect others”. 

That pretty much sums it up and saves you tons of reading.
